A memorable international experience at Georgia was being part of the Franklin College-University of Liverpool Doctoral Student Research Fellowship. This opportunity allowed me to establish relevant international partnerships with researchers in my area, experience the university environment in a different country, and carry out my own project with students in Portuguese and Italian at the University of Liverpool. This experience helped me to better present my research and find ways to communicate it to colleagues and students alike. With colleagues from the University of Liverpool I took language students to the city to explore stories of immigrants and their relationship with the city of Liverpool. You can see the project in this special issue of Fala Aí.

Studying language, literature, and culture at Georgia prepared me to work in the area of foreign languages at different levels: from the beginner classes to topics-oriented ones. My current job requires me to teach language courses and workshops focused on culture and society issues, both of which I feel prepared to do due to the experience I had at the University of Georgia.

I encourage students at Georgia today to explore opportunities in the department and beyond. I was lucky enough that the Department of Romance Languages supported my idea of creating Fala Aí magazine, which allowed me to have experience guiding students in project-based language use. This granted me usable professional skills. More than that, the professors also played a very important part in helping me venture into doing research, both presenting my research at conferences and publishing papers. The research and scholarly skills I gained from this is immeasurable. Outside of the department, I also worked with International Student Life to organize the International Student Advisory Board and talks. These were opportunities to mingle with the international community on campus and talk about relevant issues for international students at the time.
