"La Mort de Virginie"

About the Picture of Paul et Virginie
In my published writings about early nineteenth-century literature and slavery, I repeatedly return to Bernardin de Saint-Pierre’s Paul et Virginie (1788). It is a seminal work with respect to the representation of French colonial life and relations between whites and persons of color.
