Who is my advisor and how do I make an appointment?
Check at the front desk for the names of the undergraduate and graduate advisors. To make an appointment, see or contact the main reception desk located on the second floor of Gilbert Hall, phone 706-542-1075.
How do I declare a minor or fill out a minor completion form?
Minors can be declared at the front desk. Minor completion forms can be obtained from, an must be signed by, an undergraduate advisor. See "Who is my advisor?" above to make an appointment.
How do I declare a major?
Discuss your decision with the undergraduate advisor. You may then go to room 104 New College, where the Recorder will assist you.
How do I take a placement test?
Tests are administered in Clarke Howell Hall from 8:30 to 3:00 on a drop-in basis. Some mornings testing is not available, so it is best to call ahead (706-542-3183). You need to bring ID; the fee is $15.00. They are scored weekly. The results are mailed to students and are available through their advisor.
What do I need to do when it's close to graduation time?
For the procedures in the College, go to the Franklin College web site. In the Department, you must see your undergraduate advisor who will give you the forms for outcome assessment. These forms must be completed before your advisor will complete the graduation checklist required by the College.
What should I do if I want to study abroad?
Discuss your interests with the undergraduate advisor in the department and an advisor in the Office of International Education in Barrow Hall. That office has information about various programs and will advise you about transferring credit. Office of International Education Study Abroad
You need to obtain a Credit Approval Form from that office or online. Plan to attend the Study Abroad Fair that is held in October. Consider UGA sponsored programs (see Student Resources on this web site).
Should I double major in two languages or major in Romance Languages?
A Romance Languages major enables you to have a major concentration in Portuguese, which is not available as a major at this time. It also gives you the flexibility to study more than one language. However, a full major in most cases only requires four more courses and is needed if you plan to get certification to teach in high school or apply for graduate school in that language.
Who should I see if I have a problem getting into a course or if courses needed for graduation are not available?
Drop-Add is conducted entirely online. Please consult OASIS for availability of classes.
