Italian Student Andrew Byrd Wins Fulbright

Recent UGA graduate Andrew Miles Byrd (B.A., 2002, Classics and Linguistics) completed numerous courses in our Italian program and has been awarded a Fulbright fellowship to spend next year in Italy. He was also accepted into the graduate program in Linguistics at Harvard University, where he now plans to go after his year in Italy.  Asked for a comment, Andrew responded, "Four years ago, upon returning to the United States from Italy, I immediately thought to myself, 'I'm going back.' Soon thereafter I discovered that the government provides very generous and ample scholarships for students and professors to study almost anywhere in the world.  With the help of many gracious professors, I have received a Fulbright Grant to study ancient Germanic and Anatolian languages at the University of Pavia, located in a small-to-medium-sized university town near Milan.  I feel that the UGA Italian Department has prepared me well for this journey, and I thank all who have been so kind to have helped me attain this goal."  Congratulations Andrew!
