Language House Activities

Rachel Bailey & Kelly Proctor

The French and Spanish Communities in Mary Lyndon Hall have just completed their third year of operation. Students who are members enhance their program of study as they truly “live” in their target language.
French community activities are organized by Dr. Cathy Jones and the Resident Coordinator, Deana Shuman. Some of the highlights this year included a pot-luck dinner held to celebrate National French Week, attendance at a French film festival, and a visit to Atlanta’s High Museum to see the Paris Impressionism exhibit.

For Spanish, Dr. Elizabeth Wright and the Resident Coordinator Mónica Ruiz-Melendez organize activities, with George Melendez also providing significant assistance. Highlights from their year included a Spanish Tapas night, a Latin Jazz concert, and a Spring Break trip to Puerto Rico.
Members of both language communities have joined forces to perform community service at area hospitals and to sponsor a Poetry Reading night, during which members performed poems and songs in both Spanish and French.
