From the perspective of many of our undergraduate students, the fall is a time of renewal in the list of teachers' names, which often translates not only into new teaching styles, new attitudes about the treatment of errors and, to a lesser extent, new standards in the evaluation of learners' performance, but also new human qualities, demeanors, personalities, as well as new cultural backgrounds. Such a sense of novelty at the undergraduate level of instruction is received often with excitement and anticipation, as well as a sense of apprehension about the new faces in front of the new names of Teaching Assistants, Lecturers and Instructors. more...

UGA in Niterói 2005
Program Dates: May 21-July 1, 2005.
Now in its fifth year, UGA in Niterói combines language classes with enriching cultural excursions to such famous landmarks as Sugar Loaf Mountain, Maracanã (the largest soccer stadium in the world), the Christ Statue, Rio's historic district, and Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. Classes are communicative in nature and are supplemented by constant exposure to Portuguese with a Brazilian family at home and in numerous social activities. Making The Most Of It

With the demands made on faculty, there is usually no incentive for accepting the task of doing directed reading classes with undergraduate Honors students. The weekly one-on-one meetings, the extra preparation and the paperwork may go unappreciated and unrewarded unless the student's work and enthusiasm bring a spark to project, then it all becomes a worthwhile and enriching experience for both student and professor.
