UGA in Costa Rica

Ticos, mountains, tropical rain forest, gallo pinto, beaches and volcanos. Spanish and culture in Costa Rica offers students a wonderful, unique opportunity to experience all these facets of Central American life. For five weeks, students travel, study, learn Spanish and live with Costa Rican families in the San Luis Valley. All students take a conversation class (Span 3010 or 4010-Dr.Ascen Saenz) and a literature (Span 4080-Director Lesley Feracho) or history class (Hist.4200-Dr.Ian Lekus).

This trip offers far more than academics: it gives a perspective on life not often seen by our UGA students. The sincerity and gentleness of the Costa Rican character, experienced through homestays, teaches them that life goes beyond our view of the world and helps them come away with a different understanding of success and priorities.

The travels extend through the urban and rural parts of the country, allowing the students to view different aspects of Costa Rican society and ultimately, Latin America.
