DORIS Y. KADISH

Distinguished Research Professor of French Interim
Ph.D., Case Western Reserve University, 1971

Dr. Doris Y. Kadish's research interests include 19th and 20th century Francophone literature, slavery studies, literary and feminist theory, and gender and race studies. Published books and editions include The Literature of Images (Rutgers UP, 1987), Politicizing Gender (Rutgers UP, 1991), Translating Slavery (Kent State UP, 1994), Slavery in the Caribbean Francophone World: Distant Voices, Forgotten Acts, and Forged Identities (University of Georgia Press, 2000); Sophie Doin's La Chaumière africaine (L'Harmattan, 2002); Charlotte Dard's La Chaumière africaine (L'Harmattan, 2005). Her articles have appeared in French Forum, French Review, Nineteenth-Century French Studies, Rethinking Marxism, Romanic Review, South Atlantic Review, and other journals.

The University awarded Dr. Kadish the Creative Research Medal for her ongoing work on slavery and abolition in the French speaking world. An article describing her research appeared in a the 2005 issue of Research Magazine, click here to read the article.
