Only open to first-year students. Since before the time of the Roman Empire, Italy has been a nation of forward thinkers and innovators. From Roman ruins to the Renaissance and the aftermath of war to the intricacies of modern industry, this is the place where commerce and creativity have partnered together for centuries. Students will travel during the week – Friday evening through Sunday – of a regularly scheduled UGA Spring Break. This experience will offer students the opportunity to take a 1 credit hour course taught by UGA faculty in an international setting, while engaging in other activities that supplement the academic course.

UGA students of Italian are eligible to apply as English language assistants throughout the province of Brescia, Lombardy, Italy, in collaboration with English for Everybody, a network of public schools.  Duties will primarily consist of assisting teachers during their English lessons.  The English language assistants will also be asked to prepare lessons in English on other subject matters (such as History or Geography).  Assistants will be introduced to Italian teaching methods for reading and writing, which employ the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) methodology.  This is a paid internship opportunity, which includes housing with an Italian family, meals and a monthly stipend.  For more information contact: Dr. Paola De Santo desanto@uga.edu

Immerse yourself in UGA’s Cortona center, in the heart of Tuscany, to widen your intellectual and cultural horizons. Ask your faculty instructors for more information about immersion in Cortona and additional opportunities abroad during your undergraduate studies and after graduation. The Department of Romance Languages has a long tradition of encouraging all students to participate in an academically rigorous study abroad program that includes study in the language of the host country.
