A warm welcome to Dr. Leslie Gordon! The Department of Romance Languages is thrilled to have you with us full time.
Leslie Gordon joins the Department of Romance Languages as Lecturer of Spanish. Fascinated with the Spanish language since early childhood experiences in Texas, Dr. Gordon pursued her bachelor’s degree in in our own department as a UGA Honors student majoring in Romance Languages (Spanish and Portuguese). She received her Master's in linguistics at the University of Michigan and her PhD in applied linguistics at Georgetown University. Her research interests are adult acquisition of L2 phonology, innovative teaching methods, and faculty development. She also has a longtime interest in dialects and accent study.
Prior to joining the department Dr. Gordon spent many years as a UGA administrator involved in the creation and implementation of university-wide learning initiatives and learning outcomes assessment. While an administrator, she taught linguistics and phonetics courses as an adjunct for Romance Languages. Most recently, Dr. Gordon directed a highly ranked executive doctoral program in higher education as well as the prestigious Governor’s Teaching Fellows Program, both housed in the McBee Institute of Higher Education. She is excited to return to teaching and to helping students discover the rewards of knowing other languages!
