The Nina Salant Hellerstein Professional Development Fund

The purpose of the Nina Salant Hellerstein Professional Development Fund is to provide financial assistance to Romance Languages faculty and advanced doctoral students in their research endeavors. The fund is intended to support any type of research-related expenses including, but not limited to: travel expenses to make a scholarly presentation at a professional meeting; archival research and related expenses; data collection/field work and related expenses; and book subventions. Eligibility for funding will be limited to Romance Languages faculty and ABD doctoral students. Pending the availability of funds in a given year. Deadline for applying: April 1st each year.

Requests for funding, addressed to the department head, should include a 250-word statement (approximate length) describing the research project and its anticipated impact, along with a budget. ABD doctoral students should also submit a current CV with their application.

The Romance Languages Advisory Committee will evaluate all proposals and adjudicate funds. Preference will be given to research projects that demonstrate significant scope and/or impact, and to those for which candidates already have sought external funding.

When funding research-related travel, priority will be given to projects involving scholarly presentations at major national or international conferences and/or projects that require travel to archives, collections, or other sites for the purpose of conducting research or collecting data.

Recipients of book subventions should express gratitude for the receipt of support from The Nina Salant Hellerstein Professional Development Fund at the University of Georgia in the “Acknowledgments” section of the publication.
