French AB

Welcome to UGA Romance Language's program in French and Francophone Studies. In addition to French language courses, we offer a wide variety of classes that address global Francophonie, or French-speaking regions around the world.  With excellent language skills and training in literature, media, culture, history and politics, our French and French Studies majors graduate well-equipped to enter a variety of professional schools and careers.

Italian - Romance Languages AB

Studying the beautiful Italian language grants students access to one of the world’s most significant artistic, cultural, and historical patrimonies.  UGA’s Italian section offers Italian language training and a variety of courses in literature, film and cultural studies which prepare our majors for careers as global citizens.  Immerse yourself in UGA’s Cortona Center, in the heart of Tuscany, to widen your intellectual and cultural horizons.

Portuguese - Romance Languages AB

Students of Portuguese at UGA gain excellent language skills and training in the literature, media, culture, history, and politics of the fascinating and diverse Luso-Brazilian world.  Our Romance Languages majors with a focus on Portuguese, graduate with a unique set of skills that prepare students for professional school in law or medicine, graduate school, and a broad spectrum of career pathways in public and private sector employment.

Spanish AB

Students explore the inner richness of the Spanish language and its diverse traditions in courses designed to build proficiency and knowledge of a vast cultural heritage. Immerse yourself through study abroad in Spain or Latin America, and Service Learning in the community. Because Spanish is the second most spoken language of the US, our majors pursue professional careers across sectors: law, public service, health professions, business, journalism, and education.

Two Languages -Romance Languages AB

For heritage speakers or students entering UGA with language AP credit, a Romance Languages AB gives you a chance to distinguish your skills by combining any two languages in a single major. French and Spanish is a popular combination, while Italian and Portuguese create distinctive credentials. Excellent social skills combined with multi-faceted knowledge of international perspectives lead Romance Languages majors to unique career pathways with global and upward trajectories.

Romance Languages MAJOR+ 

Students who want to professionalize and have room for curiosity and growth during college can choose a Romance language major + an applied field.

PATHWAYS These minor and certificate combinations allow you to achieve advanced proficiency with a major—and apply it in a closely related field where your depth of knowledge, perspective, and communication skills are a rare plus.
