Goethe Institut Certify Your Current Skills with an OPI Test The Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) is a live, 15- to 30-minute telephone conversation between a certified ACTFL Tester and the candidate. The OPI assessment is a valid and reliable test that measures how well a person speaks a language. It can be used on a resume as official proof of your skills. Our majors are trained to speak, listen, read, and write at advanced levels of professional working proficiency and above. Our minors can expect to reach intermediate high levels of proficiency and above. We should expect to move beyond monolingualism in incremental steps of skill and perception. There are many levels of bilingualism and bi-cultural awareness that represent an expansion of a person's communicative potential. In becoming bilingual, students come to realize there is no perfect bilingual person who is two monolinguals in one body. Multilingualism is dynamic.
