Introduction to French Linguistics

The field of French linguistics, emphasizing such topics as the internal and external history of French; the sounds, forms, and vocabulary of modern French; and the linguistic variation within France and the French-speaking world. Offered every year. 

Students of French benefit greatly from taking LING 2100 "The Study of Language" prior to, or in the same semester as, FREN 3090 to gain an understanding of fundamental properties of language and basic principles of the study of linguistics, while broadening their awareness of the nature and diversity of world languages.
