Professor Emeritus of French

Joel Walz (B.A. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, M.A., Ph.D. Indiana University) taught in the Department from 1977 to 2004. He offered courses in the French language, linguistics, and pedagogy. He supervised the graduate teaching assistants in French for 17 years and served as Associate Head for three. He gave talks nationally and internationally and published articles and books on the French language and language teaching. He was co-author of the first-year college French textbook Rapports: Language, Culture, Communication, which appeared in five editions.

In 2004, Dr. Walz retired and moved to his childhood home of Easthampton, Massachusetts. He spends his time reading, fishing, bicycling, and watching Georgia football and softball on TV. He enjoys hearing from former students and colleagues and can be reached at jwalz@uga.edu.
