Dr. Julián Arribas

"'Is there Love without Jealousy?' A Story of a Christian Idea in the Spanish Golden Age"

 

Professor Julián Arribas graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Romance Languages and Literatures. He is currently the Chair of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. He is the author of a critical edition of two Pastoral Romances: La Diana (London, 1996) and El pastor de Fílida (Valencia, 2006) by Jorge de Montemayor and Luis Gálvez de Montalvo, respectively. He has also published numerous articles on the literatures of the Spanish Golden Age. Beauty and Love are among the topics that interest him the most. Today he will be talking about an intriguing aspect of the idea of love that he calls “Fear in Love.”
