Dr. María González-Ferrer successfully defended her doctoral dissertation, entitled "La reduplicación del clítico dativo en español: Adquisición en la L2 y variación" [Dative clitic doubling in Spanish: L2 Acquisition and variation] on May 21, 2025. ¡Enhorabuena, María! 

Cecília Rodrigues, Associate Professor of Portuguese in the Department of Romance Languages, has been awarded the Consortium of Latin American Studies Programs (CLASP) 2025 Excellence in Language Education Award. 

Service-learning dance course unites students across cultures and generations

Fuad Elhage, Senior Lecturer of Spanish in Franklin College’s Department of Romance Languages, has taught Diversity Through Dance since 2010. The course allows students to spend each class period connecting to the Spanish language and culture through music and dance.

We are excited to welcome back several alumni from the Department of Romance Languages for a special workshop on Saturday, May 3rd.

Join us for an afternoon of connection and conversation as we host a short lunch followed by roundtable discussions with our distinguished guests. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear about their career journeys and gain insight into a variety of career paths, both within and beyond academia.

Sarah Peterson, Italian minor and B.S. Mechanical Engineering '25, recently won first prize in the College of Engineering’s “Medical Device or Biological Process Design” capstone competition. She and her team invented a portable device that provides accurate, repeatable measurements of both linear and rotational traction for multiple simulated limb weights across various surfaces, thereby making it easier to evaluate injury prevention, especially regarding falls, joint strain, and long-term musculoskeletal issues in working dogs. 

The Portuguese Program at the University of Georgia celebrated a milestone as twelve outstanding students were inducted into the Sigma Pi Lambda chapter of the Phi Lambda Beta Society of Portuguese Learning. This marks the first-ever induction ceremony at UGA, commemorating the chapter's establishment in 2024.
